Local walkers and supporters are being invited to take part in a brand-new community challenge this April, as Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance Charity launches the Chalk Walk, a month-long walking challenge taking in some of Wiltshire’s most iconic chalk horse landmarks.

Running from 1 to 30 April 2026, the Chalk Walk invites people of all ages and abilities to walk at their own pace, exploring rolling downs, canal paths and woodland trails that link several of the county’s striking white horses and countryside gems.

Inspired by Wiltshire’s famous chalk figures, the route offers two distances to suit everyone: a main route of 32 miles and a shorter option of 17 miles, perfect for families, friends, colleagues or clubs looking for a shared outdoor challenge.

Participants can walk the full route in sections throughout the month on dates and times that suit them, turning miles into vital fundraising support for their local air ambulance that responds to emergencies across Wiltshire and Bath.

Ed Chapman, fundraising assistant at Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance Charity explained; “We are very excited to launch the Chalk Walk within our community for the first time. It aims to celebrate our beautiful countryside, bring people together and raise vital funds that help ensure our lifesaving crews can continue to respond when they are needed most.”

The challenge route begins in Marlborough, heads to the Hackpen chalk horse, follows the historic Ridgeway to the Alton Barnes chalk horse, continues to Honeystreet and along canal paths to Pewsey, through West Woods, and finishes back in Marlborough.

Registration is free and is now open. Walkers are encouraged to fundraise £100 and the first 50 sign-ups will receive a free t-shirt.

Whether walking solo, with family and friends or as part of a community or corporate group, participants can sign up, share their progress and help raise awareness and funds throughout the month of April. The fundraising will help to support the Charity’s operations, which rely entirely on voluntary donations from the local community.
