Garycopter breaks the world record

On 11 May 2025, Gary, affectionately known as the "Garycopter," completed the Bristol Half Marathon in an astonishing time of one hour, 51 minutes, and two seconds. This remarkable achievement broke the previous record by more than 17 minutes.

Gary's journey to this record-breaking feat was not without its challenges. Just ten minutes before the start, his costume broke, forcing him to balance it on his shoulders for most of the race instead of relying on the backpack support. Despite these setbacks and the intense heat, Gary persevered and crossed the finish line, setting a new world record.

Gary, who works as a quality and safety manager for Steve Vick International Ltd, received tremendous support from his company. The Bradford-on-Avon based firm, which manufactures products and provides services for trenchless repair of pipes and voids, played a crucial role in his preparation. The company's sewing technician, Alice Foley, spent 40 hours crafting the costume, and all materials were provided by Steve Vick International Ltd.

In addition to breaking the world record, Gary's efforts have raised over £3,000 for Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance Charity. His dedication to the cause is deeply personal, as he has witnessed the air ambulance in action at Trowbridge Rugby Club and knows colleagues who have benefited from its services.

Gary's achievement has garnered significant media attention, with coverage on BBC Radio Wiltshire and Greatest Hits Radio. The fundraising efforts continue, with a final push to maximise the impact of his record-breaking run.

Gary's story is a testament to determination, community support, and the power of setting ambitious goals. His record-breaking run not only sets a new standard but also raises vital funds and awareness for a crucial local charity.

Well done Gary!
