Flying over the finish line: supporting Bath’s official air ambulance through Bath Half Marathon

Whether you’re joining us for Bath Half, or taking on your own fundraising challenge, we caught up with one of our half marathoners, Josh Dolman from Elevate Cloud, to hear his tips and inspiration.

As a Charity receiving no government funding, fundraisers like Josh are essential to the work that we do. From fundraising the money itself, to raising awareness online and on race day, our community champions really do go above and beyond!

Raising your target of £250 for Bath Half could help our Charity purchase essential blood products and a blizzard blanket for a trauma patient requiring a pre-hospital blood transfusion. This would allow our crew to stabilise the patient's condition for transfer to the right hospital when speed is our superpower.

Let’s hear from Josh, who ran Bath Half for us in 2024, raising £1,255 from 50 kind supporters.

Why did you choose to run for Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance Charity?

Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance is a charity that’s very close to my heart. They quite literally saved my dad’s life after he suffered heart failure, and they were also there for one of my best mates following a serious car crash. When you’ve seen first-hand the impact they have, supporting them feels like the least you can do. Running for them was my way of giving something back and saying thank you.

“Knowing the difference the air ambulance makes every single day was a huge motivator. Training wasn’t always easy, but every run reminded me that this was about more than just a personal challenge it was about helping support a great local charity”

What did supporting the charity mean to you on race day?

On race day, it meant everything. Wearing their name felt incredibly emotional and motivating. There were moments where I thought about my dad and my mate, and that gave me a real boost when things got tough. Crossing the finish line knowing I’d helped support such an essential service was a really proud moment.

Would you recommend running for us to others, and why?

Without a doubt. Running for Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance gives your effort a much bigger purpose. It pushes you on, brings a real sense of pride, and knowing your fundraising could help save someone’s life is an amazing feeling. I’d encourage anyone thinking about it to go for it, it’s truly worth it.

We can’t wait to welcome you to the start (and finish) line!
